Operations

Chief of Staff

Location

New York · Hybrid

Base salary

$170,000

The Role

The Chief of Staff works directly with our CEO on the most strategic initiatives across the business—fundraising, GTM, product prioritization, operations, and hiring. This is not a scoped, execution-only seat. You will sit in the room for the decisions that shape the company, own projects end to end, and build the judgment to eventually run a function of your own. We're looking for someone who wants maximum exposure to how an early-stage company is actually built, and who has the drive and track record to earn trust with ambiguity from day one.

What Impact You Will Own and Drive

  • Strategic Partnership: Work directly with the CEO on fundraising materials, board updates, GTM experiments, and key partnerships.

  • Special Projects: Own initiatives from scoping to execution—pulling in the right people, setting timelines, and making sure things ship.

  • Data-Driven Decision Making: Dig into operational and financial data to identify what's working, what's not, and what we should do about it.

  • Talent: Support hiring across the company—sourcing, screening, and helping build out the team as we scale.

  • External Representation: Represent Formulary in conversations with clients, investors, and partners.

  • Structure from Ambiguity: Be the first person to touch a new initiative, and bring clarity and rigor to problems that don't yet have an obvious owner.

What You Need

  • 1-4 years of experience in a high-intensity environment: investment banking, consulting, private equity/venture, or a high-growth startup.

  • A builder's mindset—you would rather figure it out and ship than wait for perfect instructions.

  • Excellence in analytical work, equally comfortable in a spreadsheet and a stakeholder conversation.

  • A strong communicator who can represent the company credibly with clients and investors.

  • A bias for action—you move fast, course-correct quickly, and keep momentum without needing to be told twice.

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with private markets, fund administration, or the broader asset management landscape.

  • Hands-on fluency with AI tools (ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, or similar) in your day-to-day work.

  • Prior experience at an early-stage startup, in a founder's office, or in a similarly high-ownership role.

Who You Are

  • You are mission-driven and motivated to build a category-defining business from scratch.

  • You possess relentless drive, grit, and inspiration to work at an early-stage startup.

  • You act like an owner, deal well with ambiguity, and push for results without guidance and oversight.

  • You are an ambitious problem-solver, balance speed and quality, and can effortlessly navigate complex situations.

  • You move fast, ship quality products, and have a strong team-first mindset.

  • You value excellence, integrity, and the meritocracy of ideas.

  • You are a strong communicator and collaborator who thrives in a hybrid work environment.

  • You provide and receive feedback with honesty, care, and thoughtfulness.

  • You are curious and have a rare growth mindset.

Why Join Our Mission

  • Tangible Ownership. You'll own significant parts of a product used by some of the most sophisticated investment firms in the world.

  • Enduring Impact. Private markets hold nearly $30 trillion, and most of it still runs on spreadsheets, PDFs, and inboxes. The platform you build here will change how this industry operates.

  • Dream Team. We're deliberate about who we hire. You'll work with some of the brightest minds in AI and finance and do the best work of your career.

  • Problem-Solving at the Frontier. We pair people, AI, and deterministic systems to fit the solution to the problem. We automate what's earned and keep a person on the rest.

  • Compensation and Equity. Competitive base salary, comprehensive benefits, and equity ownership in a high-growth, funded venture.
